Property Type:

Many all-inclusives are owned by a single real-estate management company, and actually position individual properties against each-other for visitors looking to customize their trip based on vacation needs. This means that all-inclusive hotels often “theme” themselves to best cater to, and attract vacationers who are willing to pay premiums for what they most want. You will find a variety of price-points associated with a sliding scale of luxury, amenities, privacy, and resort exclusives.  There aren’t exacting rules for categorizing the hotels in terms of comparison so a ranking system of stars is often used by booking agents and travel companies.  Be sure to visit hotel websites, and  popular review websites to get a better visual idea of what all-inclusive amenities are associated with property levels. Usually, the lower the star rating, the larger the resort, less-private the rooms, and focus on quantity over quality - yet these resorts are often the most accessible, least expensive, and allow you to stay for longer.

Room Category:

Regardless of the luxury level of the all-inclusive property that you choose, you will find a variety of room options with names like bungalows, jr. suites, swim-ups, ocean-views, hot-tubs, and presidential rooms.  After staying at so many all-inclusive resorts we’ve found a consistent cost and planning tradeoff between expense of room vs. expense of resort.  For example; A double-story suite, with private hot-tub at a more accessible, less luxurious all-inclusive resort may be the same price as a smaller, less-desirable room at a private, secluded, lush property. Consider how much time you may be spending in room; are you travelling with another couple for entertaining space? Children for TV, movies, and nap-time? A romantic getaway for a personal hot-tub? Or looking to splurge on ocean-views, high-ceilings, and open-floor plans?  Don’t overpay for in-room amenities that may be found across the resort (that are already part of your bill) - the most basic all-inclusive rooms are far-above the average hotel.  The choice is yours, but it’s important to review the costs of the room, against the overall costs of the resort, and what amenities you want to prioritize.

Amenities / Activities:

Most all-inclusives will feature a variety of restaurants, bars, and activities to keep guests busy, but because this is YOUR vacation, you should choose what most you want to do!   Consider if beach-front access, swimmable waters, and pools will satisfy you; or the rolling greens of golf-courses; hiking-trails and excursions; presence of tranquil spas, private grounds; or celebrity-chef inspired culinary delights are what you desire.  The amenities will be well-listed in brochures or resort web-sites, and a simple web search can pinpoint additional regional activities and options.   Read more in our EXCURSIONS & UPGRADES about choosing activities, and if you have questions about what is included or available, you can call the hotel directly to get more information.

Tourism:

While many vacationers seek relaxation and tranquility, some all-inclusive resorts offer access to thriving cities, landmarks, and adventures.  Your all-inclusive location is a key consideration for proximity to off-premise features, like night-life, adventures and excursions, hisorical landmarks, or local cultural experiences.  All-inclusives are designed to be self-contained, and while some are complacent at the pool, other’s want to explore the surrounding area. Most resorts will offer rental-cars, shuttle services, and private VIP transport to reach tourist destinations, but it’s good to know if you’re interested in off-premise travel as you plan your vacation.  Be aware that the environment inside the resort (english speaking, credit cards, clean water, quality service and food) may not be found outside the resort - especially if you travel to more remote destinations.  Also be aware that tourism is rewarding, but can take time - be sure to consider how it will add to, or take away from your vacation schedule.

Most resorts offer valuable booking discounts for anniversary and birthday packages within ~30 days of personal milestones, but remember to bring proof documents (like a marriage certificate)
